Introduces students to family health nursing theory and practice with an emphasis on the childbearing family and the well-child. Nursing care is examined across the reproductive continuum, including preconception, conception, pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, with additional focus on care of the newborn and well-child pediatric populations. Using a family-centered, developmental framework, the course incorporates culturally responsive care and a population health perspective. Concepts of family structure, function, values, culture, and spirituality are applied to health promotion and health maintenance for the childbearing family.
