CORE

First year cohort. Each first-year writing seminar will study a unique theme chosen by the instructor that will be analyzed in a critical manner and engage multiple disciplinary perspectives to demonstrate the purpose and nature of a liberal arts education. In the analysis of this theme, this course will prepare students to read, write, think, and discuss critically within the larger academic community. Students will study conventions of effective writing for various types of academic essays. Students will write, receive feedback on, and revise multiple pieces of formal and informal writing. Student writing, including drafts, will total at least 25 pages.

Sed Vitae. Enrollment in CORE-ABROAD indicates that your study abroad experience will be used to satisfy the Core Curriculum's Sed Vitae requirement. CORE-ABROAD itself carries no credits, and adds only one additional requirement to your study abroad experience: you must complete the Sed Vitae reflection essay at the end of your time abroad. If you meet the essay requirements, you will earn a "Pass" for CORE-ABROAD and complete the Sed Vitae requirement.

Sed Vitae. Enrollment in CORE-INTERN indicates that your academic internship will be used to satisfy the Core Curriculum's Sed Vitae requirement. CORE-INTERN itself carries no credits, and adds only one additional requirement to your academic internship experience: you must complete the Sed Vitae reflection essay at the end of your internship. If you meet the essay requirements, you will earn a "Pass" for CORE-INTERN and complete the Sed Vitae requirement. If your internship is credit-bearing, it will receive a separate grade as determined by your academic internship faculty advisor.

Sed Vitae. Enrollment in CORE-PRAC indicates that your academic practicum experience will be used to satisfy the Core Curriculum's Sed Vitae requirement. CORE-PRAC itself carries no credits, and adds only one additional requirement to your practicum experience: you must complete the Sed Vitae reflection essay at the end of your experience. If you meet the essay requirements, you will earn a "Pass" for CORE-PRAC and complete the Sed Vitae requirement. If you are enrolled in a credit-bearing course that is associated with your practicum experience (e.g. BA-402, ED-410, ENGR-412, NU-305, etc.), it will receive a separate grade as determined by your faculty instructor.

Core Project is the Capstone assignment for Carroll's liberal arts Core curriculum. Students create and record a multimedia presentation in which they reflect on their liberal arts education and its impact on them. All undergraduate students must complete Core Project prior to graduation.
