This two-credit course starts with a weekend intensive ‘Introduction to Sustainability’ where students and faculty engage in ‘immersive’ learning with workshops, guest speakers, organization representatives, and tours of sustainably run ranches and farms (e.g. Mannix Ranch). Students are introduced to the curriculum for the minor, explore their own career interests and are introduced to the different service learning opportunities available through the program. They will begin the process of formulating their personal learning prospectus and planning the course they will take to earn a minor in sustainability.
The second part of the course will involve weekly meetings where students will explore in more depth the origin of the discipline as well as the political, environmental, social, technological, and economic aspects of sustainability. By the end of the semester, student will complete their personal prospectus and have planned the courses and service learning experiences that will comprise their minor
