ENGR-319: Geotechnical Engineering II

This course builds upon introductory geotechnical engineering principles and applies them to a practical, project-based learning environment. Students will engage in a semester-long project involving a hypothetical construction site requiring geotechnical investigation, analysis, and design. The course emphasizes application of soil mechanics to excavation, slope stability, earth retaining systems, foundation design, and site response under seismic conditions. This course adds to the Civil Engineering curricular requirements for non-linear, iterative problem solving and engineering design. Students will gain experience in applying their geotechnical engineering knowledge to a realistic problem they may encounter in practice. This will be accomplished through lecture and laboratory sessions.
