ENLT-380: Monsters, Criminals & More

This course focuses on representations of monsters, criminals, and the "other" in British and global Anglophone literatures — gothic fiction, detective and ghost fiction, postcolonial rewriting, and performance texts — spanning British imperialism and decolonization movements from the late eighteenth century through the twenty-first century. Selected course texts include Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, detective and ghost fiction by Arthur Conan Doyle, Dracula by Bram Stoker, Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, and performance texts by Warsan Shire and Deanna Rodger.
