Study of core social studies content for K–8 teachers—world history and culture, geography, civics and government (including tribal sovereignty), and economics—with emphasis on Montana contexts and Indian Education for All (IEFA). The course develops concept mastery, facility with primary sources, maps, and data, and the ability to connect disciplinary ideas across the elementary curriculum. U.S. history survey content is not included in this course.
This course is designed to Montana Administrative Rule 10.58.532.f (Social Studies) and the NCSS/C3 inquiry framework, integrating Indian Education for All (IEFA). Course assessments are standards-aligned; the Praxis Elementary Social Studies subtest (5004) functions as an external confirmation of these standards, required for licensure, and the cost is covered by the course fee.
