An academic internship experience can offer the benefit of career exploration and be an excellent resume builder. Academic internships at Carroll College are an opportunity for students to apply academic knowledge and skills in a real world setting. An academic internship is a supervised work experience and forms an academic relationship among a student, faculty internship advisor, and cooperating organization.
Students must be of junior or senior status at the time of the internship experience (60+ earned credits), and the experience should be in the student’s major area of academic study. Exceptions may be considered for students who have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA and have completed at least one full year of academic study at Carroll College. To ensure a collaborative and consistent academic experience, any exception(s) must be mutually agreed upon and approved in writing by the appropriate academic department, Career Services, and/or the Registrar. Students are required to complete an internship proposal, through Handshake, 30-days prior to beginning the internship experience for final approval and registration. Students will receive academic credit, and may or may not receive monetary compensation for an academic internship. A student may apply a maximum of 12 semester hours to degree requirements; academic departments will determine the number of credits that may count toward the major. Enrollment in the course, and credit granted, must be during the same semester in which the work experience takes place.
